The capability of a mage's crowd control + DPS is unmatched by any other class in the world...of warcraft. In order to be the most-effective at both without spending time changing targets, follow this advice.
It's easy to create a macro to set focus on your current target. Use this often to mark the mob you want to sheep and this makes a mage's life much easier.
/focus
After that, use the following macro to keep that sheep down for the fight without having to change targets. Just watch the debuff in case the mob pops early.
/cast [target=focus] Polymorph
Watch the line of sight, so you can re-sheep without having to move or change targets. With the mob eating grass for the entire fight, the mage can do what the mage does best...blow the crap out of everything.
Focus Daniel-son! Focus!
